Resumen

La filosofía de Ortega y Gasset destaca por su énfasis en la vida, en sus diversas obras se despliega todo un análisis sobre lo que significa vivir y pensar humanamente. Dichas indagaciones implican el problema de su contraparte: la muerte, en apariencia desatendida por el filósofo español. Esta investigación se propone analizar cómo las distintas modalidades del pensamiento advertidas por Ortega y Gasset acogen e interpretan la enigmática circunstancia de la muerte humana. Para ello se recorrerán sucintamente las facetas históricas del pensamiento, a saber: el pensamiento primitivo, mágico, mítico, religioso y conocimiento en sentido estricto –en su vertiente científica y filosófica–. Finalmente, se reparará en cómo responde la propia filosofía vitalista de Ortega ante la problemática de la muerte, quien la entenderá como una instancia dadora de sentido en la medida en que se articule correctamente con el proyecto vital y el heroísmo. Reuniendo tales caracteres se llegará a la definición de qué significa morir humanamente desde la filosofía vitalista orteguiana.

Abstract

Ortega y Gasset’s philosophy is characterized by its emphasis on life, in his various works there is a whole analysis of what it means to live and think humanly. These inquiries involve the problem of its counterpart: death, apparently neglected by the Spanish philosopher. The purpose of this research is to analyze how the different modalities of thought, identified by Ortega y Gasset, embrace and interpret the enigmatic circumstance of human death. For this purpose, the historical facets of thought will be briefly reviewed, namely: primitive, magical, mythical, religious and knowledge in the strict sense –in its scientific and philosophical aspects–. Finally, it will be discussed how Ortega’s own vitalist philosophy responds to the problem of death, who will understand it as an instance that gives meaning to the extent that it is correctly articulated with the vital project and heroism. Gathering such characters, we will arrive at the definition of what it means to die humanly from the vitalist philosophy of Ortega.
